Lleisiau Lleol, a new podcast from the ARFOR Llwyddo’n Lleol project, will launch on February 4, 2025. Produced as part of the ARFOR program, this series explores life, work, and community in the ARFOR regions, celebrating the stories of individuals who choose to thrive locally.
By providing a platform for people who are making a difference in their communities, the podcast reflects the strategic aims of the Welsh Government’s ARFOR program — particularly by creating opportunities for young people and families and supporting enterprising communities that strengthen the use of the Welsh language. By sharing real-life experiences of living, working, and running businesses in West Wales, the series highlights how local identity and entrepreneurship are shaping a vibrant economy and sustainable communities.
Podcast Content
Hosted by Ffion Emyr, Lleisiau Lleol features conversations with people who have used ARFOR opportunities to stay, return, or thrive in their local area:
- Running a business in the region – Daniel Grant (Pen Wiwar) and Tomos Owen (Pelly) discuss their journey as young entrepreneurs.
- Building a vibrant community – Gwen Owen (Môn Girls Run) and Steff Rees talk about creating social and cultural opportunities.
- Raising a family in West Wales – Hannah Hughes and Ffion Medi Rees reflect on the benefits and challenges of rural life.
- Returning home – failure or success? – Huw Rees and Daniel Thomas share their experiences of leaving ARFOR for Cardiff and London before deciding to return.
Daniel Grant said:
“Running a business here isn’t just possible — it’s rewarding. The support from Llwyddo’n Lleol has helped turn ideas into reality.”
Steff Rees added:
“There’s a misconception that ‘there’s nothing to do’ in ARFOR, but the truth is completely different — the community is full of energy and opportunities.”
Eleth Owen, Llwyddo’n Lleol Project Officer, emphasized:
“This series highlights the people proving that ARFOR is full of opportunities. Whether launching a business, creating social spaces, or returning home, these stories showcase the ambition and resilience that strengthen our Welsh-speaking communities.”
The podcast not only amplifies the voices of those benefiting from local economic opportunities but also reinforces Welsh as a living, working language within the workplace and community. This aligns with ARFOR’s strategic goal of strengthening Welsh-speaking communities’ identities and ensuring more young people can see a bright future in their local area.
A new episode will be released every week on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music/Audible, and YouTube.
