Morgan Brewer’s experience with Charles Gray Engineering

Llwyddo’n Lleol: Keeping Young Talent Close To Home

In a small workshop in Llanelli, big things are happening. Morgan Brewer, an ambitious young apprentice, is living proof of the power of local investment and the crucial role of Llwyddo’n Lleol’s Gyrfaol initiative.

At just 20, Morgan has found his footing at Charles Gray Engineering, a growing business founded by Neil Charles and Chris Gray. For both Morgan and the company, the opportunity to connect through Llwyddo’n Lleol has been nothing short of transformative.

Morgan, who has always had a passion for hands-on work, says his apprenticeship has opened doors he once thought were closed. “I’ve always loved working with machines and creating things,” he explains. “This apprenticeship has given me the chance to learn skills every day and work towards a future I’m excited about.”

For Neil and Chris, Morgan has been a welcome addition to their team. “He’s a credit to himself and the college he came from,” says Neil. “Having him onboard has been a great asset to us — not just for what he’s learning, but for the energy and dedication he brings to the company.”

But opportunities like this don’t happen by accident.

Llwyddo’n Lleol’s Gyrfaol initiative exists to create connections exactly like this, highlighting the career opportunities available to young people under 35 in the ARFOR area while helping local businesses invest in the next generation. For Morgan, that’s meant funding for the tools and equipment he needs to thrive in his role. For Charles Gray Engineering, it’s provided the financial support to take a chance on a young apprentice without overstretching their resources.

“Llwyddo’n Lleol has been a huge help,” Neil explains. “It’s allowed us to pay a large portion of Morgan’s wages and invest in equipment for him. We’re a small business, but thanks to this programme, we’ve been able to do our bit to train and support the next generation of talent.”

It’s not just about the work, either. While apprentices like Morgan focus on developing their skills, Llwyddo’n Lleol also creates social opportunities, connecting participants with others across the region and promoting the high quality of life in communities like Llanelli.

Morgan’s advice to others thinking about taking a similar path? “Go for it,” he says simply. “If you’re passionate about something, take the opportunity. You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you try.”

The impact of Llwyddo’n Lleol’s Gyrfaol initiative is clear: young talent stays local, businesses thrive, and communities grow stronger. By investing in people like Morgan and businesses like Charles Gray Engineering, the programme shows that success starts locally.
