Gwlad y Gemau: Revitalising the Welsh Language Through Esports and Language Technology Innovation

Esports is a massive industry, with an audience expected to reach 495m by 2023 (Newzoo). This sector represents an opportunity for the Welsh language, especially among the key younger demographics. Haia will establish Welsh language prominence in esports while introducing groundbreaking language technology and developing a start-up in the space.

They aim to create a global player in the esports industry that will have a big impact on the economy. Haia is developing an esports specific platform “Haia Streams”, an extension of the existing “Haia” event platform which currently serves B2B markets. This new extension infiltrates the esports domain after identifying a gap in multi-stream events platforms. This extension integrates language technology, enhancing Welsh language experiences across both products and addressing the need to normalise Welsh language usage.
